Disney please stop using toxic chemicals in your lunch boxes
As many of you know, I started a PETITION asking Disney to be a leader for children’s health and to stop using dangerous chemicals in their Spiderman and princess lunch boxes. The Disney petition was launched about 10 days ago and has exploded. I am humbled by the amount of support this petition has received. There are over 53,000 people who have signed this petition asking Disney to make a change now. As I’m writing I continue to remain optomistic that Disney will soon respond and make the necessary changes to keep our children safe. The same nagging question keeps popping into my head: “How could they not make a change?”
My interview with CBS Boston about the petition is scheduled to air on Thursday, September 20 during the 11 pm news! I’ll share a link for those of you not in the Boston area. I have to admit the waiting is killing me. As I mentioned before, the interview was a fantastic experience. I was running on adrenaline and felt passionate sharing information about the CHEJ study which found toxic chemicals in back-to-school supplies. I was thrilled to chat about what prompted me to start the petition. But now I’m nervous. I’m waiting patiently to see how the piece is edited together for the news. My hope is that the segment encourages others to sign the petition and add their voice to the growing number of people who want Disney to make a change (and that my mascara wasn’t running down my face, or my face looked shinny in the bright lights or I that I spoke a mile a minute!).
If you haven’t signed the petition you can add your name HERE.
Laila Ali joins Moms Clean Air Force
I have been blogging for Moms Clean Air Force for quite sometime. It’s an organization that’s near and dear to my heart for so many reasons. I was thrilled to find out yesterday that Laila Ali, the daughter of former boxer Muhammad Ali and a retired boxer herself, has joined Moms Clean Air Force. She made a fantastic video too. Check it out HERE.
Interesting posts this week
Pink Slime saga
The producers of “Lean Finely Textured Beef (LFTB)”—a.k.a. “pink slime” are suing nearly everyone who called their “meat product” “pink slime”. They claim they lost a lot of income once the catchy nickname caught on. Bettina Siegel from The Lunch Tray started a fantastic petition which quickly gathered over 200,000 signatures and ultimately caused the USDA to announce that starting this fall it will offer school districts a choice of beef either with LFTB or without the filler. Should be an interesting lawsuit to watch unfold.
Boost your immune system
This is the time of year when we start to get slammed with all sorts of sickness. Nicole over at Simple Homemade shared a few great tips to keep your immune system in check this fall. I was happy to see one of her tips included taking a probiotic.
A guide to winter squash
Butternut squash is one of my all-time favorite foods. Now that we are entering fall and the colder months winter squash will be readily available. I was excited to see this comprehensive guide to winger squash by my friend Kiersten over at Oh My Veggies. She does a great job giving the low-down on the different types of winter squash- how to choose, cook and prepare these delicious veggies.
Have a wonderful weekend! Anyone going apple picking?
