Do you make an effort to use reusable cups, water bottles and mugs? This fantastic infographic shared by my friend Shane over at Environmental Booty and created by Factory Direct does a great job explaining why the small, simple act of using a reusable cup has such a tremendous positive impact on our planet.

Why Reuse a Cup? via Reusable Bags – Factory Direct Promos

I really think every coffee retailer should have that sign displayed somewhere in their store. Because I think people just don’t realize how much waste it really is. It might even help them sell their reusable cups/mugs.
First, thanks so much for posting Lori. Myself and Jason, the founder of Factory Direct Promos, really appreciate it. Next, I know some food courts are getting on the band wagon for reusable cup but I hope this message reaches all of the fast food restaurants! Just think of all of the cool options in reusable bottles, all with their logos, they could give consumers to purchase and then get free drinks forever. Okay maybe not forever but a discount would be nice. I think it is a win win. Don’t you?? 🙂
This is a great infographic. Another disposable item that is really worrying is disposable chopsticks – the trees that have to be cut for that little bit of convenience! Thanks for sharing this infographic. Got here from Small Footprints Meet & Greet Monday. 🙂
Ugh, this topic drives me crazy. Single-use anything is a pet peeve of mine. What frustrates me is that it seems like it’s entirely up to us, the consumers, to reduce cup waste, when it should at the very least be a shared responsibility with the retailers. Am I the only person who has noticed that real cups aren’t even used INSIDE of coffee shops anymore, for patrons who don’t need to take their beverages to go? Yikes!
Hi Marsha, They really should display this. Maybe it would encourage people to bring in their own reusable mugs for their coffee and tea.
Hi Sara, Interesting comment concerning disposable chopsticks. It would be so simple to bring your own reusable chopsticks or refuse the single-use chopsticks for takeout. We end up reusing our wooden chopsticks over and over.
Hi Andrea, I agree-single-use is such a waste. Retailers should and have the power to take a stance that could make a big difference. How can we help them change?
Hi Shane-for some reason your comment went into spam. Thanks to you and Jason for spreading such an important message. Hopefully retailers will take the plunge and start promoting reusables rather than disposables.
Infographics really do open up your eyes don’t they? I know quite a few coffee shops offer a few cents off if you use a reusable mug. But a few cents really isn’t enough for people to make a change, we need to make the change because it’s the right thing to do!
