If you’re anything like me you’re constantly running in a million different directions with work, family, and personal commitments all competing for your attention. As much as we want to look and feel great, the last thing we have time for is trying on multiple outfits before heading out for the day. I’m guilty of grabbing a few favorite wardrobe staples and sticking with them.
It dawned on me a few days ago that my daily go-to outfits were getting a little boring. I was amazed that my closet was filled with clothes that I never wore. And then I discovered SwapIt.
What if I told you there’s a personal stylist out there who can help make the most out of your current wardrobe?
Around 6:30 on a recent Thursday evening two stylish young women from a Boston-based company called SwapIt showed up at my front door. Before coming in they proceeded to unpack a large suitcase and a clothing rack. We brought everything inside and decided to set up shop in my bedroom, where my closet and a full-length mirror were located.
I invited the SwapIt team over with the hope that they would add new life to my closet. Their goal is to help you get the most out of your current wardrobe by ensuring you have the fashion staples you need for your lifestyle. Their stylists make sure you look good by swapping out your items that no longer work for you with new-to-you items that were not working for someone else. How amazing is that concept?!
Their philosophy is that we all have amazing clothes already… They’re just buried under all of the other clothes – the ones that don’t fit right, don’t look right and don’t serve you anymore.
Here’s how the three-hour (yes, three-hour!) session went down.
Before Sara and Stefanie arrived I was asked to make two piles.
- Pile 1: Items I needed advice on
- Pile 2: Items I need more outfits for
My piles were ready to go when they arrived. Before digging into my closet and piles Stefanie had a few questions about my style, my lifestyle, and goals for the session.
The rest is a whirlwind. Over the span of three hours, they took apart my piles and dug through my closet. Using pieces from the piles and my closet, they put together some amazing combinations that I would have never thought of on my own. I think I tried on over 30 outfits!
Most outfits were an instant hit
Here are a few that I loved.
This is one of my favorites.
This outfit had so many layers. I’m always cold so layers are perfect.
Three hours later I had a complete lookbook filled with outfit ideas for the next week and beyond. They also let me know that I had a month of free text support. Over the month I can throw on an outfit and text them a photo for advice. It’s like having your BFF with you at all times!
Not only did we have a great time (music, laughter and awkward photos), but I also learned so much. Here are my top takeaways from my session with my SwapIt stylists:
- Don’t add to your wardrobe without taking away.
- A personal stylist doesn’t have to cost a fortune.
- Layering is key.
- Side tuck is so in style.
- It’s possible to give new life to old pieces.
Overall my time with SwapIt was a success. I gave them a large pile filled with pieces of clothing that were no longer useful to me and I only swapped in two pieces from them. The rest was already in my closet!
If you have no idea what to give that someone in your life with a closet full of clothes, a session with a SwapIt stylist is the answer.
Have you ever used a personal stylist?
